How It Works
VA Disability: The Foundation
We require veterans to have a VA disability rating from a service-connected injury, providing a stable income to cover basic needs while they focus on recovery and rebuilding their lives. By partnering with VA rehabilitation facilities and trusted organizations, we carefully select highly motivated veterans who meet our criteria, ensuring a strong foundation for their success and the program's sustainability.
Finding a Home
Our mission begins with finding a safe, stable, and supportive environment for each veteran to call home. We believe that housing is not just a necessity but a foundation for recovery and long-term success.
-
To achieve this, we acquire a home for the veteran and establish a modified rent-to-own plan tailored to their unique financial situation. This approach enables veterans to build equity over time, creating a sense of ownership and stability that is often lacking in their lives. The plan is designed to be sustainable, relying solely on the veteran's VA disability income to ensure affordability and long-term viability. By focusing on their disability income, we eliminate financial barriers that might otherwise prevent them from maintaining stable housing.
-
Additionally, we recognize that many veterans face significant challenges when it comes to pre-qualifying for rentals due to past financial struggles, criminal history, or lack of credit. To address these barriers, Goose INC. collaborates with rental agencies and property managers to resolve pre-qualification issues. This includes advocating for veterans, negotiating on their behalf, and providing resources or guarantees to bridge the gap between landlords' requirements and the veterans' current circumstances.
-
Through this comprehensive approach, we aim not only to provide housing but also to empower veterans with a sense of stability, dignity, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives with a foundation of equity and security.
Empowering Financial Independence
-
To ensure sustainability and meet the immediate needs of the veterans we serve, Goose requires that veterans have a VA disability rating resulting from a service-connected injury. This provides them with access to a stable source of income to help cover their basic needs, such as food, transportation, and personal essentials, while they focus on recovery and rebuilding their lives.
-
At this early stage, we are hand-selecting veterans who qualify for the program to minimize risks and maximize the likelihood of success. This selective process allows us to dedicate our resources and support to individuals who are both eligible and highly motivated to make meaningful changes in their lives.
-
To identify suitable candidates, Goose plans to partner with VA rehabilitation facilities and other trusted organizations that specialize in supporting veterans. These partnerships ensure that we connect with veterans who not only meet our eligibility criteria but are also genuinely committed to their journey of recovery, stability, and growth.
Managing Essential Needs
We take a holistic approach to supporting veterans by alleviating the burdens of managing essential living expenses. To streamline their transition to stability and recovery, veterans participating in our program agree to redirect their VA disability direct deposits to Goose. This ensures that their funds are responsibly allocated toward critical needs, helping them maintain financial security and focus on their recovery journey.
Here’s how we manage their essential needs:
Mortgage Payments
All mortgage payments and bills are always paid on time. Improving credit scores and tackling debt.
Utilities
All utilities are managed directly by Goose, including essential services such as water, electricity, internet, phone, gas, and homeowner association (HOA) fees where applicable. This eliminates the stress of late fees and juggling multiple bills, ensuring uninterrupted access to vital services.
Transportation Expenses
For vets without driver’s license, Goose assists in providing adequate transportation, such as an electric scooter or bike, or a rideshare; which are practical and cost-effective for short to medium distance travel. This ensures that veterans can attend work, appointments, and support meetings.
Food & Nutrition
We assist veterans in budgeting for food, delivery service, and/or assistance with signing up for food assistance programs if desired or qualified.
Our mission extends beyond providing housing and essential support; we strive to empower veterans to regain control of their financial lives and build a foundation for lasting independence. Through careful management of their VA disability income, we ensure that veterans not only cover their basic needs but also have the opportunity to take charge of their personal finances.
Weekly Personal Disbursements
After covering all essential expenses—such as mortgage payments, utilities, and transportation—any remaining funds are disbursed to the veteran on a weekly basis. This steady flow of personal funds helps veterans regain confidence in managing their finances while ensuring they have the resources for day-to-day needs and activities.
Savings and Investment Guidance
To foster long-term financial growth, veterans have the option to allocate a portion of their remaining funds toward a savings or investment account. Goose provides guidance and resources to help them start building wealth, reinforcing the importance of financial planning and independence.
Encouraging Responsibility and Growth
By offering a structured approach to managing personal funds, Goose teaches veterans how to develop healthy financial habits. This model strikes a balance between providing essential support and giving veterans the autonomy to make financial decisions that shape their futures.
Build Trust
Donors and supporters can have complete confidence that their contributions are making a meaningful impact. By displaying financial data live, we eliminate doubts about where donations are going and ensure that our commitment to accountability is clear.Maximizing Impact
Every dollar we receive is put to work with maximum efficiency. Whether it’s funding a veteran’s housing, covering essential utilities, or supporting operational costs, our financial transparency ensures that resources are directed where they’re needed most. Donors can see the tangible results of their generosity.Empowering Stakeholders
By making our finances fully visible, we empower donors, partners, and veterans to understand and engage with our mission. This level of openness fosters collaboration and inspires greater confidence in the long-term success of Goose.Leading by Example
Goose is setting a new standard for nonprofit accountability. Our live financial transparency not only supports our mission but also encourages others in the nonprofit sector to adopt similar practices, raising the bar for trust and impact.
Our innovative approach ensures that every donor, no matter the size of their contribution, knows their support is driving meaningful change. At Goose, your generosity directly fuels hope, stability, and a brighter future for veterans in need—all in plain sight, every step of the way.
At Goose, transparency is at the core of everything we do. We are deeply committed to earning and maintaining the trust of our donors, partners, and the veterans we serve. To demonstrate this commitment, we have implemented a unique and innovative approach to financial accountability: live financial transparency.
All of Goose’s finances are displayed in real-time on our homepage. This means donors and stakeholders can access up-to-date information about how every dollar is being allocated and utilized. From donations to operational costs, housing expenses, and program investments, every aspect of our financial activity is open and accessible to the public.
Here’s why our approach to transparency matters:
Full Transparency
To safeguard the autonomy and trust of our veterans, it’s important to note that they retain full control over their benefits and can transfer or redirect their payments at any time. However, participation in the program is contingent on their continued commitment to this financial arrangement. Opting out of the direct deposit system signifies the end of their participation, as it is essential for maintaining the structure and sustainability of the program.
By managing these essential needs, Goose reduces financial stress for veterans, enabling them to focus entirely on their recovery and personal growth. This system ensures that their disability income is used effectively and transparently, empowering them to build a secure and brighter future.
